An agent contract is what authorizes a person or agency to represent the athlete in marketing the athlete’s ability and name. This formal agreement gives the representative the authority to seek sponsorships, negotiate endorsements, and handle licensing or other branding opportunities on the athlete’s behalf. It also outlines duties, how the agent is compensated (usually a commission on deals), the scope and duration of representation, and how the relationship can be ended. This is different from an application, which is just a form to apply for something; a noncompete clause, which restricts where or how an athlete can work after certain agreements; or collective bargaining, which is about negotiating terms for a group of workers rather than an individual athlete.
